Grape Varieties: 100% Touriga Nacional
Tasting Notes: Dark garnet colour, very concentrated. Aromas are intense and fruity with typical hints of violets contrasting with ripe blackberries, blackcurrant and blueberries; breaking it up are hints of black pepper and spices. Well structured, with interplay between acidity and robust tannins. This wine is strong and earthy, but at the same time fresh and vivid.
Food Pairing: Rich, intense flavours: grilled chouriço, roast peppers, venison stew, blue cheese. Also works with sweet components, such as roast pork stuffed with prunes; or try with dark chocolate.
Alcohol: 14.5% vol.
Vineyard: At the top of the hill where the sun is most direct, the ground is warm and relatively dry, is where the Touriga concentrates its aromas most.
Winemaking & Ageing: Selected, handpicked grapes reach the winery in boxes of 20kg. After de-stemming and crushing, the grapes are carefully transported into a stone fermenting tank by conveyor belt. 30% bleeding to concentrate flavours. Fermentation lasts for 12 days using the traditional method of foot treading for up to four hours per day. Aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels.

Footnote: In an exceptional year with particularly good Touriga Nacional grapes we set out to explore how far we can push the Queen of Portuguese Varietals. Highly concentrated and intense in colour, texture and character, this is a wine “for adults only!”
